Unfortunately, like most thoroughbred breeds, the Cavaliers have inherent health issues.
Cavaliers, like all purebred dogs, have some hereditary conditions that affect their health. It is important that you understand these health issues, especially as your pet ages. You are often your dog’s best line of defence against disease because you’ll b the first to notice any symptoms, changes in your dog’s behaviour or sense of well being.
The most severe of these issues, which can affect the quality and longevity of your Cavalier’s life, are Mitral Valve Disease (MVD) and Syringomyelia (SM). Other issues are the likes of Patella Luxation, Hip Dysplasia and various Eye Conditions etc.
it is recommended that you research known issues so you are armed with the facts to assist you in either deciding on which breed you want, or if you have a breed already, what to look out for and how you can help your pet.
For Cavaliers the following site is particularly useful as it covers just about anything that can go wrong: http://cavalierhealth.org
